Duvel Moortgat switches to new EAM and goes live in 3 months

A brewery doesn't run on chance. Behind every bottle is a production process that runs day and night, and therefore also a maintenance organization that cannot falter. At Duvel Moortgat, that maintenance ran well, but the system that was supposed to support it did not.

Together with SAM&more, the group took the step towards Ultimo Enterprise. Not as an IT project, but as a trajectory that began on the shop floor and ended with a working blueprint for all sites of the entire group, and that within three months.

The challenge

Duvel Moortgat worked with an EAM system that did not deliver what it promised. Performance was lacking, the system felt cumbersome for the people who worked with it every day, and a structured way of working was absent.

On top of that: Duvel Moortgat is an international group with multiple sites. So the new system had to work not only for one location, but be deployable across the entire group — and without everyone having to relearn what maintenance means.

What they were looking for:

  • A modern, user-friendly EAM that continues to evolve
  • A structured, standardized way of working
  • One system that works across different international sites
  • Paperless working from day 1 — no transition phase with loose forms

Our approach

We started where we always start: on the shop floor. Alongside the technicians, in conversation with the planners, and in dialogue with management. Not to write a report, but to understand how the work really flows.

From that perspective, we worked out a blueprint together with Duvel Moortgat, not only for this one site, but structured in such a way that the other sites in the group can connect to it more quickly in the future.

Subsequently, we implemented Ultimo Premium at 2 sites, with 80 users, and ensured that everyone could work paperlessly from go-live.

The result

  • Live in 3 months. No years-long process. A working system, at pace.
  • A blueprint for the group. The following sites can go live faster, because the heavy thinking has already been done.
  • Knowledge sharing between sites. What works at one location becomes visible to the other.
  • More hands-on tool time. Less administration, more time on the installations.
  • Insight into the costs. This makes it possible to optimize in a targeted manner.
